Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils
As you will be aware, schools in England are closing from Friday. We have not yet received any clarification from the Government about the exceptions to this but given the short timescale we wanted to contact you to enable us all to make plans.
What we know so far is that we will be closed for the 'foreseeable future' and that SATs and all other assessments are cancelled. We would like to take this opportunity to commend our Y2 and Y6 children who have worked so hard towards those ‘end of Key Stage’ assessments and assure you that we are extremely proud of them for the hard work they have put in.
The government are going to let us know about a scheme to ensure that children accessing Free School Meals can still receive a meal at lunchtimes - possibly using a voucher system. We do not believe this applies to the 'Universal' Free School Meals that all infants receive, however we are awaiting further information on this matter also.
School will remain open to provide support for families in specific circumstances. We understand how vital it is to keep front-line services, such as NHS, police, fire, ambulance services, social workers and delivery drivers available to support our communities. With this in mind, we are aiming to prepare for Monday and to provide adequate care and support for eligible children. Please can I request that parents who believe they self-identify as key workers, write into school tomorrow morning if we don’t already know. This will be checked against the criteria once it has been released and we will inform you of plans.
We will endeavour to provide onsite care to the children of front-line personnel, however, we anticipate this being a small number of children and therefore are likely to have any children in mixed-age groups, probably with different staff members.
Children who the government have identified in the vulnerable category will be contacted directly by school before the weekend to discuss the arrangements for Monday and beyond.
School will open on Monday at 8.45am and close at 3.00pm for the above categories of children only.
All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards.
This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it’s far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.
Thank you again for your continued support, and we will be in touch with more information when we can.
Mrs C Miller
